Mental Health First Aid - Carlisle Eden Mind - West Cumbria Mental Health Partnership

Carlisle Eden Mind delivers a range of Mental Health First Aid Courses that are accredited by MHFA England. Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is training courses which teach people how to identify, understand and help someone who may be experiencing a mental health issue.

Becoming a Mental Health First Aider won’t make you a therapist just like a physical first aid course won’t make you a doctor. It will, however, teach you to listen, reassure and respond, even in a crisis – and even potentially stop a crisis from happening.

What will you learn?

You’ll learn to recognise warning signs of mental ill-health and develop the skills and confidence to approach and support someone while keeping yourself safe.

You’ll also learn how to empower someone to access the support they might need for recovery or successful management of symptoms. This could include self-help books or websites, accessing therapy services through their GP, their school or place of work, online self-referral, support groups, and more.

What’s more, you’ll gain an understanding of how to support positive wellbeing and tackle stigma in the world around you.

Two day courses

Learning:

Two-day face to face course across four manageable sessions
Learning takes place through a mix of presentations, group discussions and workshop activities
Each session is built around the Mental Health First Aid action plan
We limit numbers to 16 people per course so that the instructor can keep people safe and supported while they learn

Cost for the two days is £225 per person, which includes MHFA manual, course materials, certification and refreshments including Lunch on both days.

One day refresher course

Our mental health first aid refresher courses are held regularly through the year for anyone to attend you can check our training and events calendar for the next open dates.

If you are a Mental Health First Aider or MHFA Champion you have skills for life that support you and the people around you.

We believe that mental health should be treated equally to physical health – and just like physical first aid, Mental Health First Aid training should be kept up to date.

The four-hour MHFA Refresher course will empower you to:

Keep your awareness of mental health supports current
Update your knowledge of mental health and what influences it
Practice applying the Mental Health First Aid action plan
Four-hour face to face course
Learning takes place through a mix of presentations, group discussions and workshop activities
